Recreation FAQ
What is Campus Recreation doing about COVID-19?
As of spring 2022, most COVID restrictions have been lifted at the Student Recreation Center. Campus Recreation follows the general SOU policies regarding face coverings, vaccinations, and capacities. For more information on current COVID-19 policies at SOU, visit the SOU COVID-19 Information and News page.
What is the Rec Center Fee?
The Recreation Center fee is automatically charged each term to most students taking classes on campus. This fee covers the debt service for the building (principal and interests) and some overhead expenses (utilities, reserves, etc). One way to think about this fee is the debt shared by current and future Raiders to pay the mortgage for having the physical building on campus. The debt service for the SRC is 30 years and will end in 2047.
How is the Incidental Fee used for Recreation?
The operations, programming, and services at the SRC are funded by a portion of the Incidental Fee. This fee funds the salaries for student-employees and staff, the supplies and equipment needed for the programs, and administration costs for various services. A portion of the Incidental Fee also funds the opening and operations of the Student Recreation Center, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, the Outdoor Program, and fitness and wellness programs. One way to think about this fee is the life and opportunities offered within the SRC and through the many recreation services. To learn more about these fees and the Student Fee Committee, visit the ASSOU website.
